Wisecracks of A-Rod

Well, Roddick’s out of US Open and it doesn’t look at he’s gonna be on court around for long. Hence, this blog is for one of the most interesting personalities to have played the game.

For the record, Roddick has won US Open 2003 and millions of hearts all over the world. A good starting point would be his OMG looks(!!) but he would easily lose out to the more talented Safin (closely followed by Rafter). Tennis? Whom are we kidding!! But Roddick will always be remembered for his wisecracks.

A few of my favourites:

It all started with his outburst at the umpire:
— “Grow a spine!" (yelling at a chair umpire)

Umpire: "If the machine beeps, what can I do?"
A-Rod: "Switch it off and use your brain!"

At high school / college, we loved this angry young man!! Go Roddick!!

"Stay in school, kids, or you might end up being an umpire."
J Brilliant!

Umpiring, the only job in the world where you can screw up on a daily basis and still have one!" J J

On his many a not-so memorable encounters with Fedex:

Wimbledon 2004 final

"I threw the kitchen sink at him but he went to the bathroom and got his tub."
ROTFL

Wimbledon 2005 final

"I went in on his forehand and he passed me; I went in on his backhand and he passed me; I stayed back and he passed me even though I was at the baseline."
J J Well, now thatz something J

Media person: I’m sure you are in no mood for an interview now
A-Rod: “I'm in the mood for a beer right now”
Personal favourite! Please give him the trophy….atleast the beer! It’s England, afterall!

Australian Open 2007 semifinal
Roddick was ro(d)gered by Fedex. One of the most humiliating matches ever! And, the linesman makes an incorrect call favouring Roddick. Fedex challenges and wins the point.

Roddick: Thanks, mate! you are trying to help! doesn't work!
(Godly!! Hats off)

Wimbledon 2009 final
Sorry, Pete; I tried to hold him off.

(A-Rod to Pete Sampras, after Fedex won his 15th slam)
Graceful in defeat

I'm gonna have to start winning some of the matches to call it a rivalry!"
You said it!!!

On his miserable run at the French Open year after year
“Whatever I said last year, just copy it. I'm sure it still fits." (after his first round loss at the 2006 French Open)

On drama queen Nole:
"Back and a hip? And a cramp? Bird flu? Anthrax? SARS? Common cough and cold? He's either quick to call a trainer or he's the most courageous guy of all time."
Awesome J

On Davis Cup:
“I don't know if it is his job as captain to give the other team any more motivation”

On what keeps him playing tennis:
"The cheerleaders . . . wait . . . there are none."

That for you, Ladies and Gentlemen is Andy Roddick, one of the finest sportsmen of our times.

A tribute to the Lord of Tennis

Today, the mighty king walks on a familiar turf, one more time, the crown shining it all its glory, head high up proud his past conquests.

But the king knows better. His horses are no longer the fastest, weary of long years of war. His rein threatened by worthy successors, who have won quite a few battles. But the king has nothing to prove, it has been a long journey and he has conquered them all.

2001, Wimbledon centre court, round of sixteen: The prince has come of age, defeating the then invincible Pete Sampras. That was just the beginning. 9 years later, 16 grand slams, 285 weeks of dominance, all 4 grandslams and all 3 surfaces............

But stats don't say it all! The genius of shot making - the crafty forehand, the flawless execution that never fails to magically creates winners, time after time.........the precision of the volleys (in the long lost game of serve and volley).......the mighty serves........the impossible overheads.....

With the shadows of retirement looming large, the world of tennis will cherish every moment of the genius in play. Go Fedex.
